OVERVIEW
The DVP-FX701 offers a 7-inch TFT LCD display with a 16:9 aspect ratio, ideal for viewing DVD-Video. While the picture quality is excellent, with deep, rich colors and sharp images, Sony has omitted progressive scan output. Still, the DVP-FX701 can double as a second DVD player at home; with the screen closed and the battery removed it can fit into the tightest space in a crowded kitchen, dorm room, or bedroom. The unit can be hooked up to a TV using its mini-jack S-video and composite video outputs. It can also route Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 surround signals to an A/V receiver via a coaxial digital audio output. The unit comes complete with a compact yet easy-to-use remote control.
For use on the go, the player offers built-in stereo speakers as well as a headphone Y splitter so two people can listen simultaneously while sitting side by side in a car or on adjacent airplane seats. The DVP-FX701 provides excellent disc compatibility in addition to DVD-Video, comfortably handling an array of formats including DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, audio CD, and CD-R/RW, as well as discs encoded with MP3 digital music files and JPEG images. The digital audio outputs can be switched to A/V inputs so users can even connect a video game or camcorder. The included lithium-ion battery lasts about three hours depending on such things as the volume and the brightness levels selected, which is enough to enjoy at least one movie. This is a high-quality portable DVD player.
